Thailand - Krabi

La province de Krabi est située sur la cote de la mer d’Andaman. Les célébres “limestones hills” sont les monuments naturels les plus connus de la province. Environ 130 iles appartiennent à la province, Kho Phi Phi et Kho Lanta sont sans doute les plus connues, et ont servi de décor au film “the beach” ou a certains James Bond. Cette côte a été durement touchée par le tsunami de décembre 2004.

The province of Krabi is located at the shore to the Andaman Sea. Most notable are the solitary limestone hills, both on the land and in the sea as islands. Of about 130 islands belonging to the province, Ko Phi Phi Lee is perhaps the most famous, as it was the set of the movie The Beach. The coast of the province was badly damaged by the tsunami on December 26 2004.

The Golden Triangle - le triangle d’or

Le Triangle d’or est le surnom donné à la région du nord de la Thailande qui relie les trois frontières (Thailande-Myanmar-Laos). Plaque tournante du trafic de l’opium depuis des décénies, la région est massivement rurale , montagneuse et agricole.
Du site de Golden Triangle on voit au delà du mékong les trois pays. Le “chalet suisse” du Doi Tung, résidence royale, est agrémenté d’un majestueux jardin.

The Golden Triangle is one of Asia’s two main illicit opium-producing areas. It is an area of around 350,000 square kilometres that overlaps the mountains of tree countries of Southeast Asia:Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.
From the Golden triangle Pier on the Mekong river, we can see Lao and Myanmar. The Doi Tung royal residence is agremented with a magnificent garden.

MAE SALONG

Le village de mae Salong est situé au Nord de la province de Chiang Rai, la province la plus au Nord de la Thailande. L’endront est montagneux et le climat est alpin. Mae Salong est connu pour ses villages tribaux, ses plantations de thé et ses gourmandises. Autrefois Mae Salong était le centre du trafic de l’opium, mené par les chinois. A la fin de la guerre civile chinoise en 1949, des combattants chinois anti-communistes réfugiés du Kuomintang(KMT) ont trouvé asile ici.

The village of Mae Salong is situated on the mountain of Doi Mae Salong, on the north of the Chiang Rai Province, the northernmost province of Thailand. The area has an alpine-like landscape and climate, and is known for its hill tribe villages, tea plantations and cherry blossoms. Mae Salong’s early history centered around the Golden Triangle’s opium trade, in which its distinctive population – the “lost army” of the Republic of China Army’s 93rd Division – became involved. At the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, some remnants of the anti-communist Kuomintang (KMT) found azylum there.

Chiang Rai, chef-lieu de la provnoce qui porte son nom, n’est en fait qu’une petite ville paisible d’où il est tres facile de partir en ballade.
